Children's work

There are four aspects to Children's work in the parish:

1.   Sunday Club at St Mary's

2.   Let's Play (baby and toddler group) at St Mary's

3.   AD children's group at St George's

4.   Messy Church in Honley

St Mary's Sunday Club

Sunday Club is the Sunday School that runs on the third Sunday in the month in term time whilst the 9.30 am service is happening in St Mary's.  We meet in the Parish Room at 9.30 am (next door to the church) for an informal session that introduces children to simple messages of Christian teaching. We then join the main service in church for the Communion. We sing songs, make things, have short discussions, create pictures and generally have fun!
At the moment, Sunday Club children are in the age range of 1 – 11 years. All children are welcome.
For further information, please contact Kirsty James on telephone 01484 663090 or by email.

Please note:

On the first Sunday in the month there is no Sunday Club as children come into church for the All-Age service.

What it’s about – Messy church is a form of church for children and adults together that involves creativity, celebration and hospitality. Primarily aimed at people who don’t already belong to another form of church it aims to introduce Jesus, give an opportunity to encounter and grow closer to Him. It meets at a time that suits people who don’t usually go to church, so not generally on Sunday mornings. It includes a welcome; a long period of creativity time to explore the biblical theme by getting messy; a short celebration time involving story, prayer, song, games etc; followed by a sit-down meal together at tables. All the different elements include people of all ages; adults and children. It is a fun way of doing church for people at all stages of their faith journey and the people who gather at Messy Church become a congregation themselves.
Here in Honley we work with the other two churches in the village (Elim and Trinity) to do Messy Church.
Whilst Messy Church is a joint venture between all three churches in Honley, Messy Church is always held at Trinity Church, Moorbottom, Honley as the facilities and venue there are perfect for Messy Church.
