Sunday 12th  July  Welcome

Come to the Sower of seeds, Planter of hearts.

Come this morning to the enriched, fertile ground of God’s love.

Come away from the stony ground, away from the strangling weeds.

Come let your roots be strengthened and your hearts flourish.

Come to the place of enrichment

Come let us worship the Living God as the seed of the Word is sown

here with us today.

All: we come to worship our Lord.

Hymn

Come, ye thankful people, come,
raise the song of harvest-home!
All be safely gathered in,
ere the winter storms begin;
God, our Maker, doth provide
for our wants to be supplied;
come to God’s own temple, come;
raise the song of harvest-home!

We ourselves are God’s own field,
fruit unto his praise to yield;
wheat and tares together sown,
unto joy or sorrow grown;
first the blade and then the ear,
then the full corn shall appear:
grant, O harvest Lord, that we
wholesome grain and pure may be.

For the Lord our God shall come,
and shall take his harvest home;
from his field shall purge away
all that doth offend, that day;
give his angels charge at last
in the fire the tares to cast,
but the fruitful ears to store
in his garner evermore.

Then, thou Church triumphant, come,
raise the song of harvest-home;
all be safely gathered in,
free from sorrow, free from sin,
there for ever purified
in God’s garner to abide:
come, ten thousand angels, come,
raise the glorious harvest-home!

The seed is sown and the crop is grown.

All: Come, Lord, strengthen us as we grow in you.

The rain hydrates and the sun radiates.

All: Come, Lord, quench our thirst in the warmth of your love.

The land is tilled and the flour milled.

All: Come, Lord, refine us by your Spirit.

Confession

Lord, like those who have come before us we have not always made

good choices, we have failed to follow your guidance and chosen to

take a wrong turn or a wrong path.

Like Adam and Eve we still think we know better,

we listen to the voice that we should do what we want.

Lord, show us when we have failed, help us to acknowledge our mistakes and seek your forgiveness, for you offer it freely.

May we seek your wisdom and guidance on a daily basis,

listening to your living word and following wherever you lead us. Amen.

Reading from the Bible: Matthew 13.1-9,18-23

1Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the lake. 2Such great crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach. 3And he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘Listen! A sower went out to sow. 4And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path, and the birds came and ate them up. 5Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil. 6But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and since they had no root, they withered away. 7Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9Let anyone with ears listen! 18Hear then the parable of the sower. 19When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path. 20As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away. 22As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing. 23But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.’

Talk

Hymn

The Spirit lives to set us free,

Walk, walk in the light;

He binds us all in unity,

Walk, walk in the light.

Walk in the light,

Walk in the light,

Walk in the light,

Walk in the light of the Lord.

Jesus promised life to all,

Walk, walk in the light;

The dead were wakened by His call,

Walk, walk in the light.

He died in pain on Calvary,

Walk, walk in the light;

To save the lost like you and me,

Walk, walk in the light.

We know His death was not the end,

Walk, walk in the light;

He gave His Spirit to be our friend,

Walk, walk in the light.

By Jesus' love our wounds are healed,

Walk, walk in the light;

The Father's kindness is revealed,

Walk, walk in the light.

The Spirit lives in you and me,

Walk, walk in the light;

His light will shine for all to see,

Walk, walk in the light.

Affirmation of Faith: Let us declare our faith in God

Do you believe and trust in God the Father who made all things?

All           We believe and trust in him

Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ who redeemed the world?

All           We believe and trust in him

Do you believe and trust in his Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God?

All           We believe and trust in him.

This is the faith of the Church.

All           This is our faith. We believe and trust in one God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen

Hymn I am the bread of life  [agape share bread and  wine].

I am the bread of life,

He who comes to Me shall not hunger,

He who believes in Me shall not thirst.

No one can come to Me

Unless the Father draw him.

And I will raise him up,

And I will raise him up,

And I will raise him up on the last day.

The bread that I will give

Is My flesh for the life of the world,

And he who eats of this bread,

He shall live for ever,

He shall live for ever.

Unless you eat

Of the flesh of the Son of Man

And drink of His blood,

And drink of His blood,

You shall not have life within you.

I am the resurrection,

I am the life,

He who believes in Me

Even if he die,

He shall live for ever.

Yes, Lord, we believe

That You are the Christ,

The Son of God Who has come

Into the world.

Time of Prayer

Almighty God send down upon your Church the riches of your Spirit, and kindle in all who minister the gospel your countless gifts of grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All           Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

All           So let us go; Go and sow, go and scatter,

go and spread the Word of God that is life for the world;

the Word of God is the song of love for all. Amen.

Hymn

O Lord my God!

when I in awesome wonder

Consider all the works

Thy hand hath made,

I see the stars,

I hear the mighty thunder,

Thy power throughout

the universe displayed:

Then sings my soul,

my Saviour God to Thee,

How great Thou art!

How great Thou art!

Then sings my soul,

my Saviour God, to Thee,

How great Thou art!

How great Thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander

And hear the birds sing

sweetly in the trees;

When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,

And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze;

And when I think that

God His Son not sparing,

Sent Him to die

I scarce can take it in.

That on the cross

my burden gladly bearing,

He bled and died to take away my sin:

When Christ shall come

with shout of acclamation

And take me home

what joy shall fill my heart!

Then shall I bow in humble adoration

And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!

Blessing:

May God’s living be sown within your soul. May his life fill you with goodness and his love bear fruit in you and those you meet. And may you know fulfilment in the growing, in the gathering, in the freshness,

in the flavour, in the fullness, of the life-giving Christ today and always.
